I wanted to be able to enjoy all that this university could offer. So, when I got there, I started searching for professors that could provide a research opportunity related to my interests. After talking to a couple of them, I found Peter Adamczyk. He had an idea about an ankle prosthesis that could enhance the walking ability of people that had lost their lower limbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Adamczyk decided to give me the opportunity even though he was not sure about how much I would be able to accomplish only in one semester (the duration of the exchange program).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a couple of months working on the project, a final design was chosen. It was a simple design that would allow 2 degrees of freedom on the ankle component and still weight less than 800 grams (1.7 pounds). I was also able to manufacture a functional prototype using university resources. Professor Adamczyk was very pleased with the results, and decided we should apply for a patent through the university. UW-Madison\u2019s patent office also appreciated the design and has applied for a patent under the name \u201cPROSTHETIC MANIPULATOR AND METHOD THEREFOR\u201d, in which Professor Adamczyk and I are credited as co-inventors.
